Why Acorns?
Acorns have been a staple of the human diet for thousands of years. Here in North America, Indigenous peoples tended oak forests, often with fire, to cultivate a robust harvest. We are helping to revitalize this knowledge with our fall harvest gathering, The Nut Stomp.
What can we do with acorns?
Acorns can be leeched of tannins, dried and then ground into flour, which can be used in everything from bread to ice cream. We’ll show you how to process them and give you lots of ideas of what you can do with them.
Where: The Pond Hill School House in Wellfleet, 65 Old Paine Hollow Road, South Wellfleet
When: November 21st, 2026, 1pm-5pm
What to Bring: Bring as many white oak acorns as you can collect, and your favorite nut-based food dish to enter into the baking competition.

Our Longterm Vision:
The Nut Stomp is only the beginning. We are creating a map of prolific oaks on the Outer Cape and establishing a network of acorn foragers. Together, we will learn how to process and work with nature’s superfood and distribute it to the wider community.
The oaks take care of us. We take care of one another. Round and round it goes.
